Why I hate blog entries that hate something
Why is there such a fashion to tell everyone why that you hate some piece of technology/software or Java. Well how about this then, I hate people who write articles that hate something. Wait a minute aren't I writing one of those blog entries right now. oh well.
What I don't really get is the point of these blog entries (like this one) if they don't like why don't they just don't use it or do something positive about it, instead of complaining about it. Everyone hates something, so what, that person over there hates Tomcat the other person loves Tomcat, so what lets call it a draw and get on with it.
Why don't we have more blog entries on why people love things and the reasons why. I know that by explaining why you don't like something you are pointing out the weak points and things to avoid but to be honest I'm not much of an anti pattern person because they only show you how not to do something but I want to know how to do something and why I should do things a certain way or why I should use some new software or programming language.
Java itself is a good example, everyone is always complaining about this or that and they don't like Generics, why what's the point. Why don't you tell me about something you like, like the cheeky new for loop.
I say don't write entries like this, write entries extolling the virtues of practises/methods, technology, Java, especially pieces of good design and code, so I can then steal *cough* I mean borrow and credit the author I mean.
I like a good moan myself but I that bloggers should maybe give out a bit more of a positive vibe.

It's a pity that choosing up sides and fighting about things is so deeply rooted in the human psyche.
I agree with your point for the most part. If someone gripes about a dislike but then suggests how it could be improved, well, that works for me. Case in point, David Walend's blog entry on generics: http://weblogs.java.net/blog/dwalend/archive/2006/05/tilting_at_the_1.html
Hopefully that isn't what inspired you to post your blog entry!
Great topics in your blog btw, you keep writing about stuff that I'd thought about but never gotten around to posting on. Keep up the good work - saves me a lot of time :-)

I really like the article you have posted, very constructive and making the best of what we got. Problems and solutions with working examples are the best way to learn I find and that's exactly what the article you have linked to does.
blog topics are quite weird, one minute I'm sitting there staring at the wall and the next minute there is a flood of things I think I could blog about. I have only been blogging for about three weeks but I have learnt loads and I'm glad you find them interesting.
thanks for your comments and link
